We believe that participants come with knowledge and experience. The role of the facilitator is to create a safe environment that brings out the participants’ knowledge and leverages their experience.

Yona Lunken is the founder of Thinking Skills Seminars, and has been presenting, training, and facilitating seminars for the past 20 years. He started the company to bring his expertise in these skills to a wider audience around the country.

Prior to starting Thinking Skills, Yona was a System Training Specialist helping directors and administrative staffs improve their job performance at Career Education Corporation, one of the nation’s leading providers of job skill training. He was also a faculty member in the Masters of Information Technology program at American Intercontinental University where, in addition to his teaching schedule, he created and presented faculty orientation workshops and train-the-trainer seminars.

Yona’s academic credentials include a Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering from Rutgers University and a Master’s degree in Cognitive Psychology from Georgia Institute of Technology. Yona is also certified in FourSight Assessment, a tool used to explore team problem-solving preferences…and certified in the DiSC Profile, which helps people understand and improve their communication style in the workplace.

Yona makes seminars engaging and practical, so that participants bring back new skills to their workplace.

Dr. Seth Katz is in his 16th year teaching courses in grammar, linguistics, and writing at Bradley University. He holds a BA in English from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and MA and PhD degrees in English from the University of Chicago, where he wrote his dissertation under the supervision of Professor Joseph M. Williams, a nationally recognized expert on writing, style, and revision.

Seminars:

Writing to make them listen. This seminar will teach you the basics of how to make your message clear as a bell to any audience. Grade school grammar was boring; but the keys to effective writing rest in knowing a few simple facts about the grammatical structure of sentences, and what makes sentences and paragraphs clear, concise, and coherent.

10 ways to drastically improve your emails without breaking a sweat. The power of e-mail is that it is fast, easy, and cheap. But speed and ease are exactly why so many carelessly crafted e-mails fail to deliver their message. This seminar will teach you 10 easy ways to more consistently compose clear and effective messages that take advantage of the power of e-mail.

BS, Southern Illinois University. An industrial technologist interested in primitive technologies. A student of the famous tracker Tom Brown, Ed has participated in seminars that not only teach wilderness skills, but also the philosophy of the interconnectedness of all life. He is a certified Hatha Yoga instructor and works in the Mankind Project International and Path to Spirit. Ed is an enthusiastic teacher and a long time favorite at Art and Science in the Woods teaching map reading, fire by friction, food plants, and survival skills. This is where Ed and Yona meet, worked, became friends and colleagues.

During the workday Ed can be found at AlCast, an aluminum foundry, where he has been for 36 years helping it grow from 8 to 120 employees. As Chief of Research and Development Ed has developed and implemented many innovations that have increased production, improved safety and decreased costs.

Ed’s personal mission is: “Empower myself and others to lives of loving action by opening my heart to share my resources, knowledge and wisdom in a loving manner.”
